About 15 kms away from the Bhopal city, Kerwa is a beautiful place that has everything that a nature lover needs. Natural forest along with plantations, Kerwa river and the dam, hills, rocks etc makes it a popular picnic destination for the citizens of Bhopal.

A mix of dry decidous forest with teak plantations, Kerwa is home to birds like White bellied Drongo, Plum headed parakeet and white browed fantail flycatcher. It also provides good opportunity to see some special birds like Black lored yellow tit and beautiful Black napped monarch flycatcher. We were fortunate enough to see other birds too like Golden backed Woodpecker with its rappling like descend from the tree and Red throated flycatcher which was not that red.

A few Chabutaras (Sitting places) provide a good view to see lot of birds if you wait there for some time. Place is characterised by lot of Bird calls that mark the presence of these birds. That makes us realize how much we miss Mr. Pratap Singh who could so easily identify birds with their calls. The initial training givent to us by Mr. Sanjay Thakur in Kerwa during Bird Watching too helps a lot.

A Birding trail was marked in this session in and around the nursery that would help in future birding sessions. Marking was also done for the species that are present near these spots today. There were many unidentified birds too, the photographs of these birds have been sent to the experts for better identification.
