Lesser
white throat was the first bird sighted with its 'chwick chwick'
call. Children were very excited to see the Painted Storks, about
50 in number perched on trees and flying over. Aviary was full
of different species of birds such as Little cormorant, Cattle
egret, Grey heron, Whistling teals etc. This diversity and abundance
of birds (see checklist) shows peak time of migration of the year.
The trees were full of egrets, about 400+ in number which was
the dominant specie of the day.
Sangeeta
described migration and different migratory and non-migratory
birds to the participants while Khalique took snaps and explained
about various aspects of photography. A young bird watcher was
eager to know about "large black birds" perching on eucalyptus
tree. The bird was Large cormorant. Local hindi names were used
for the convenience. Session ended in Gondal bageecha. Children
were asked to prepare a list of bird that they saw.
