As
the winter is slowly gripping the city, more birders are now coming
to Van Vihar to experience the wonder, say bird watching is all
about. A beautiful morning, songs of different birds and their
mere presence made the participants fill with energy and enthusiasm.
Mr J. S. Chouhan, Director - Van Vihar National Park also joined
the group and answered to queries of the participants.

look at the Baya's incomplete nest, and the story behind.

A
lot of lesser whistling teals were again seen today along with
different types of egrets. Birders took note of how to differentiate
between different egrets. It seems Bronze winged jacanas love
the area near the aviory and have developed it as their breeding
place. Four of the immature were seen there along with two adult
jacanas.
Cormorants have occupied Eucalyptus trees near Gondal Bagicha
and are slowly shifting to the Crocodile enclosure. As there number
will increase more cormorants will join them here too. There is
Large Cormorant, many little cormorants and few shags ie Indian
cormorants too. The droppings of cormorants have turned these
eucalyptus trees into white in color.

About
8-10 small minivets were seen today near the vitheeka. The group
was a mix of males and females. It seems they are preparing for
the nesting season that would start from january.
Birders
are eager to see the Painted Storks that were so common in VVNP
last year during november. Infact, about six spoonbills were seen
last month, hope to see them again in the coming days.
