Sapna
dam near Betul provides a large area for water birds and different
types of waders. Migratory birds like brahminy shellduck and common
sandpiper can be seen here. Egrets in large numbers cover the
water edges and river terns are seen flying over the water. This
area is also full of martins, swifts and swallows.

Butterflies
in the Saapna Nursery

Sapna
Nursery provides an equally rich habitat to butterflies and birds.
Presence of large variety of plants, mostly medicinal is attracting
lots of butterflies. Along with birds a list of butterflies and
plants is also enclosed. However, due to our restricted knowledge
in field of butterflies, a checklist of butterflies should be
prepared by experts that can cover the entire area, as there is
a possibility of many more species.

ie Medicinal and aroumatical plants are being maintained in this
Kendriya Ropni. Mr Dhurve from the Forest dept. is an expert in
treatment using these natural herbs. During our trip to saapna,
we were helped immensely by Mr Avinash Joshi - FRO, Tapti Range
(Betul) and we thank him and all the staff for providing us the
support we needed.
